AKONET

The AKONET is what allows the central controller and the components to talk to each other.  It is a small area network (SAN), which utilizes I2C for the physical and datalink layers.  AKONET adds additional datalink functionallity, along with defining the network and application layers.

Computing devices wishing to participate in an AKONET may utilize the AKOI2C I/O coprocessor.  The PC-AKO adapter, built around an AKOI2C, allows PC's to communicate on AKONET's.

AKONET Specification Version 1.0 (22 Dec 1999)
The AKONET protcol specification is the original spec.  It needs to be updated to reflect changes in the network layer.  There haven't been in any changes in the packet layout, but some of the vocabulary needs to be changed, along with a discussion of how connections and RPC calls are handled.  A section describing the AKONET RJ-11 connector also needs to be added.
